When parents enter into long term care facilities, stress and emotions run high for families. Unfortunately, many families face the additional issue associated with a parent who heads to the hospital and attempts to return to their long term facility. Increasingly, California seniors are facing eviction upon their return to the long term care facility.
The following article & image from a recent NPR investigation highlights the difficulties seniors are facing:

A few quick preventative tips to keep in mind:
1) Have a plan in place before parents reach the point of entry into a long term care environment.
2) Investigate long term care insurance while parents are healthy. A steady source of income is attractive for operators of long term care facilities.
3) For families, stay proactive with staff at a parent’s facility. Strong relationships with facility staff and administrators may just overcome economics.
